Much more than a museum docent tour. Experience private curated tours at the Met which focus on relevant themes in art. Gain timely insights about art, its appreciation, history, and beauty as you explore works at the Metropolitan Museum. Past curated themes: Nudity, Sex and Love in Art, Decoding Contemporary Art, The Birth of Selfies: Self-Portraiture, Tiffany: Beyond the Blue Box, etc. Join Lynne Seid, Art Historian, on these journeys.
Why do Met visitors bypass North America’s only Michelangelo unknowingly? Perhaps sculpture presents unique challenges for the museum goer. Familiarity with the body can make a viewer quick to judge. Or visitors get fatigued by looking at the “must-see” paintings first. Perhaps the context for a work might be given short shrift. And it takes longer to walk around a 3-D sculpture than to look at a painting.
This tour focuses on Western sculptural masterpieces at the Met, in historical sequence. It highlights the context that fostered the specific works and gives you the tools needed for looking at sculpture of the body. Attendees will discover true masterpieces, many hidden in plain sight at the Met, and why they are considered exemplars of Western artistic development.
Join either of two Friday mornings: September 12th or September 19th 10:30 am
